Is it time to upgrade my home?
Maybe you’ve been pondering a bit lately about whether your home is still stacking up to the demands placed upon it by you and your family. Maybe it seems as though it’s been falling short of your expectations and just not performing up to snuff. How can we discern whether or not we’re just bored with our home, or even worse, not properly utilizing all the space it does offer.
Maybe we’re the ones not up to snuff and not taking advantage of unused space. Sometimes we can miss seeing the forest through the trees and this also applies to space we have in our home that we simply don’t think is usable. For instance, wall space isn’t just there to hang décor, you literally can use wall space from floor to ceiling and create floor to ceiling storage, bookcases or shelving that can hold a myriad of books, decorative pieces and the like, corralling them all into one cohesive area…and it can be a beautiful conversation piece in the room if done well!
Get creative in using the space you have. A hanging pot rack could work to save kitchen cabinet space and I always recommend purging your excess stuff that no longer serves you. If you can’t recall the last time you used something, or if it has dust on it, OR if you have 5 of the same items, you need to grab a donate box, fill it and head to your local donation center.
Maybe you are short a room (you think) for working out, a home office, a guest space or the like. Could you combine uses in one room? Maybe you have one room pull double duty and make the guest bedroom also a workout space and/or office. Do you really need a bigger, more expensive house just because you’re a little short on storage and maybe could use one extra room?
During Covid, many people decided to stay put and modify their homes to work better for them, instead of moving. My advice would be to adopt this mindset and put in some solid effort towards getting the most out of your home before you decide to sell and move on. You might be surprised to find it actually can work really well and meet all of your needs….it just needed some attention and thought from you to do it!
